tarantella

Description

Tarantella is an old folk-history thing from Italy from somewhere in the Dark Ages, when for wild religious reasons dancing was banned. But I do think people will always have the urge to dance, and sing, and express themselves even in the most dire of situations. Therefore, young people would claim to have been bitten by a tarantula and thrown into a frenzy which only dancing could cure. This dance was one of the few sanctioned, and it was called the Tarantella.

Research nowadays also attributes the frenzy to a type of fungus that grows on wheat.

Protip: Tarantella is also a musical piece by Igor Stravinsky :D

Also inspired by ~peganthyrus's rocket-spider girls :3

This is actually rather old. I finished it around this time last year - so that's why it has the date of '06 on it. My adviser at school is from Italy and gave a small presentation about this phenomena.

I waited so long to scan this because for me, it's fairly huge... somewhere around 18x24 " ish. So scanning isn't easy, but I finally got off my lazy ass and dragged it to the library so I could use their big scanners. Walla! Took like five minutes :|

Done 90% with brush and ink, with some technical pen for small details.

And no, I will not color this :| But if any of y'all want to take the challenge, do tell me, I will provide a larger pic to work with.
